2019 Balloon Glow
July 4 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Celebrate America Balloon Glow
Good music, beautiful hot air balloons and amazing fireworks will provide an evening’s entertainment for the entire family at this year’s Celebrate America Balloon Glow. Ridgeland Recreation and Parks is proud to present this Independence Day tradition. The 29th annual celebration will take place on Thursday, July 4 at Northpark Mall’s balloon glow field, with plenty of parking around the mall.
The Celebrate America Balloon Glow, the opening event of the Mississippi Championship Hot Air Balloon Race and Festival in Canton, provides the opportunity to witness approximately twenty hot air balloons of all colors twinkle and glow in the dusk of a summer evening.
There’s much more to the Balloon Glow than balloons. The event actually begins on Monday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 2 at 7:00 pm with a Karaoke Contest at Burgers and Blues restaurant, 1060 E. County Line Road. The winners of the preliminary rounds will advance to the finals on July 3. The Karaoke Contest winner will open the evening’s entertainment on July 4 from the main stage.
Our Master of Ceremonies will then guide our balloonists through a series of balloon glow sequences that will captivate the crowd.
Following the balloon glow, fans will enjoy a performance by singer, Phil Vassar. Vassar is celebrating 20 years of chart-topping hits and is taking them on the road with his “Hitsteria Tour”. His reign of signature songs include 10 No. 1 singles and 26 Top 40 hits, including Carlene, Just Another Day in Paradise, Six-Pack Summer, When I Love You, and many more. Vassar was racking up hits on the radio long before he even began his own recording career that has seen the release of six albums, two ASCAP Songwriter of the Year trophies, ACM’s Top New Male Vocalist and sold-out shows across the country. Vassar’s songwriting career blossomed in the mid-’90s when he landed a publishing contract with EMI and penned hits for Collin Raye (Little Red Rodeo), Alan Jackson (Right on the Money), Tim McGraw (For a Little While), Jo Dee Messina (Bye Bye, Alright), and Blackhawk (Postmarked Birmingham). He signed a record deal of his own with Arista in 1998 and was named ASCAP’s Country Songwriter of the Year in 1999. Vassar continues to churn out incisive, soulful lyrics and infectious melodies that capture the heart and soul in the unique and special way that only he can.
In addition to Phil Vassar’s entertainment there will also be music by a local band, Burnham Road.
Burnham Road is a country band with a little edge based out of Brandon, MS. Lead vocals are split between brother and sister duo TJ and Laura-Leigh Burnham and newest member Josh Journeay. They have very strong harmonies while rocking the stage together. TJ also plays rhythm guitar while he charms the crowd. Laura- Leigh stirs things up a bit on her songs with some edge and attitude. Josh Journeay is a man of many talents who plays harmonica, Lead guitar & acoustic guitar while singing lead and also adding a beautiful third harmony. Lead guitar player Rodney Canoy has his own unique tone that makes this band stand out from all the rest and every now and then you will catch him on bass guitar. David Weeks, Jr. rocks out our beats on the drums and keeps the crowd energized. Another man of many talents, Ryan Morphis, plays rhythm guitar, lead guitar and bass guitar. Ryan is an original member from when the band was only a trio in 2011. Ryan has co-written several of Burnham Road’s original music. Each member comes from all areas of Mississippi and have different backgrounds of music. When Burnham Road takes the stage together they create a very solid unique sound you wont hear anywhere else.
Throughout the evening, vendors will be on hand to provide various types of food for attendees, including favorites such as barbecue, corn dogs, chicken-on-a-stick and funnel cakes. Children’s activities are available throughout the evening at the Northpark Mall Carnival area. Activities include inflatable obstacle courses, jumps, face painting and other children’s favorites.
